Founded in Lisbon in 1906, Sporting Clube de Portugal is one of the ‘big three’ in the Iberian country alongside Porto and Benfica.

Known as the Lions or Green-and-White, Sporting play their home games at the 50,000-seater Estadio Jose Alvalade and finished in third place in the 2014/15 Primeira Liga in Portugal, nine points adrift of champions Benfica.

Sporting are managed by Marco Silva, a 37-year-old former player who took charge of the club in mid-2014.

The Lions boast 18 Primeira Liga titles, 16 Portuguese Cups (including the 2015 edition when they defeated Braga on penalties in dramatic final) and the 1964 European Cup Winners’ Cup title.

Their youth system is one of the most highly regarded in the world, having produced the likes of Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo.
