We pick three SuperSport United players who could play a major role for their club in the upcoming Cape Town Cup.

Jeremy Brockie

Born: 7 October 1987

Nationality: New Zealand

Position: Striker

Former clubs: Richmond Athletic, Nelson Suburbs, Canterbury United, New Zealand Knights (all New Zealand), Sydney United (Australia), Hawke’s Bay United, Team Wellington (both New Zealand), North Queensland Fury, Newcastle Jets (both Australia), Wellington Phoenix (New Zealand), Toronto FC (Canada)

Jeremy Brockie was a surprise signing for SuperSport United at the back end of 2014, but his form in the second half of last season – he scored eight league goals in 13 appearances – removed any doubt that he adds value to Matsatsantsa’s team. The 27-year-old New Zealand international has spent most of his career in either his home land or playing in Australia’s A-League, while he also had a spell in the MLS with Canadian club Toronto FC. Brockie’s game is marked by an ability to be in just the right place at the right time to finish off scoring opportunities.

Thuso Phala

Born: 27 May 1986

Nationality: South Africa

Position: Winger

Former clubs: Silver/Platinum Stars, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns (all South Africa)

Winger Thuso Phala is one of the quickest players in South Cape Town Cup and a regular in the senior national side, Bafana Bafana. The 29-year-old started his career with Silver/Platinum Stars in the mid-2000s before spells at heavyweight clubs Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, where he struggled to find his best form. However, a move back to Platinum Stars from 2010 to 2013 saw him establish himself as arguably the best winger in the PSL, and SuperSport United acquired his services two years ago. The Soweto-born player has become a regular goal scorer in recent years and netted six times in the 2014/15 Absa Premiership.

Ronwen Williams

Born: 21 January 1992

Nationality: South Africa

Position: Goalkeeper

Former clubs: Shatterprufe Rovers, SuperSport United-Tottenham Hotspur Academy

Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the PSL despite his youth, Ronwen Williams has already achieved much in his career but has an even brighter future ahead of him. The 23-year-old came through the ranks at SuperSport United and made his debut in the 2010/11 season when he was just a teenager. He has since become Matsatsantsa’s number one and has also represented the senior South African national team, with his debut arriving in a match against Brazil in March 2014.
