Cape Town Cup participants Crystal Palace defeated Barnet 5-3 in a pre-season friendly at The Hive on Saturday, with Dwight Gayle scoring a hat-trick.
However, there was no place for the Eagles’ new signing Yohan Cabaye, who must still wait to make his first appearance for the Premier League side.
The 29-year-old French midfielder joined Palace from PSG for a club record £12.8million fee on Friday and manager Alan Pardew opted against fielding him.
Yet even without Cabaye, Palace recorded an entertaining victory. Barnet had taken the lead through John Akinde in the first minute, but a Dwight Gayle hat-trick put the Eagles 3-1 up before the hour-mark.
Luke Gambin and Kevin Lisbie both scored for Barnet in the second-half, only to see their goals cancelled out by strikes from Eagles youngster Reise Allassani and Fraizer Campbell.
