Cape Town Cup hosts Ajax Cape Town’s goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola says that he's targeting winning trophies with the Mother City side ahead of the 2015/16 PSL season.
The Finland-born shot stopper says the Urban Warriors’ performances in the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup last season have led to raised expectations, and he is optimistic that they will pick up some silverware in the upcoming campaign.
Roger De Sa's men finished in a respectable top five position last season, thus qualifying for the top eight.
"Individually, I would like to be a bit more consistent and improve my game," Jaakkola told a local website.
"I've been nominated for the goalkeeper of the season for the past two seasons that I've been here and hopefully, third time will be lucky.
"And as a team, obviously we have a lot to prove because we raised a lot of expectations by doing what we did last season.”
Speaking about improving their 2014/15 run, the 28-year-old added that there’s a lot to achieve and he remains optimistic.
"There's a lot to achieve and we would love to win trophies,” said Jaakkola.
"We did well last campaign and we are optimistic that we can bring one trophy to Cape Town - we would also like to improve our last season's log position.
"And hopefully that's the way to go. I am quite optimistic and confident in my teammates also."
The Parow-based club is already two weeks into pre-season and is set to compete in the inaugural Cape Town Cup to be hosted by the City of Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium.
They will clash against SC Sporting of Portugal whilst SuperSport United take on Crystal Palace from England from July 24th to the 26th.
