Cape Town Cup participants Sporting CP have confirmed that highly-rated midfielder William Carvalho has been ruled out of action for three months with a fractured leg.
The 23-year-old has been linked to a number of big clubs, with Premier League giants Arsenal said to be particularly keen on the midfielder.
He also put in a starring role in the recent European U-21 Championships and was named the player of the tournament.
However, in a statement released via their official Facebook page, Sporting revealed on 14 July that Carvalho had returned to the club with a stress fracture to the tibia.
The problem had not been been relayed to them by the Portuguese Football Federation or the U-21 team’s medical department.
Sporting estimate that Carvalho will spend at least 10 weeks on the sidelines, missing all of the side's pre-season preparations, including the Cape Town Cup later this month.
