We pick the three battles that could decide the outcome of the second Cape Town Cup semifinal between Ajax Cape Town and Sporting CP.

Roger De Sa v Jorge Jesus
Ajax Cape Town manager Roger De Sa showed his acumen last season by guiding his young squad to an impressive fifth place finish in the Premier Soccer League. He will have to be on top of game to match Sporting’s Jorge Jesus – the Portuguese side’s manager may be new to the club (though he represented them as a player back in the 1970s), but his reputation is one of a tactical master after a trophy-laden spell with Benfica, which included winning a third Primeira Liga title in the 2014/15 season.

Rivaldo Coetzee v Islam Slimani
Young Ajax defender Rivaldo Coetzee and powerful centre-forward Islam Slimani have met before, with the pair battling against each other in an Africa Cup of Nations group stage match between South Africa and Algeria earlier this year. Sadly Coetzee lasted just 29 minutes of the match before he had to be substituted due to injury, while Slimani played the full 90 minutes and was rewarded with the final goal in a 3-1 win for the Fennec Foxes.

Granwald Scott v Adrien Silva
Granwald Scott has become one of Ajax Cape Town’s most reliable and consistent performers over the years, and he is well established in the engine room of the Urban Warriors. In the semifinals of the Cape Town Cup he will have the challenge of trying to control Sporting’s Adrien Silva, a box-to-box midfielder who has become a key player for the Portuguese giants. Last season the 26-year-old made 30 league appearances and netted eight goals.
