Cape Town Cup hosts, Ajax Cape Town are set to hand right wing back Rheece Evans a chance to face Sporting Clube de Portugal.
The Urban Warriors are scheduled to face the Portuguese giants on Friday night in the second semifinal of the inaugural cup.
According to local media reports, the Mamelodi Sundowns player who has struggled to break into Pitso Mosimane’s first team, could sign for the Urban Warriors.
Speaking to a local website, the Ajax CEO Ari Efstathiou said talks are at an advanced stage and they’d like to have him on board.
“We are at quite an advanced stage [of talks] with Rheece. We would like Rheece to join the club, and Rheece would love to come to the club – he fits nicely with the system that we are playing,” Efstathiou was quoted.
“Now it’s just a matter of agreement with the clubs – we are busy speaking with Sundowns at the moment - yes, he will (play in the CT Cup).”
The former Maritzburg United defender endured a tough season at Chloorkop as he made just 44 minutes of Absa Premiership action in the entire season since joining from the Team of Choice at the beginning of the previous campaign.
The 24-year-old is looking to revive his football career in the Mother City.
According to the report, should the player sign, he is expected to replace Nazeer Allie, who earlier made the move to Bidvest Wits, and will face competition with utility player Cecil Lolo, who also played in the right-back position last season.
Ajax face the Portuguese side at 20h15 at the iconic Cape Town Stadium.
