Sporting Clube de Portugal coach Jorge Jesus paid a glowing compliment to Ajax Cape Town, saying they would hold their own in Portugal's top division.
Sporting needed a 4-2 penalty shootout win to reach Sunday's Cape Town Cup final against Crystal Palace after the game ended 2-2 after the 90.
Carlos Mane and Ruben Semeda scored for Sporting while Cecil Lolo and Franklin Cale netted for the home side.
Asked for his views on Ajax Cape Town, Jesus said: "I was surprised by the technical level of Ajax and their value.
"They are very good technically and their tactics in this match were also good. They have some very good players in their team.
"They have had a lot of time together with their coach to work and make progress and I believe that what I saw from this Ajax team they would be of a level somewhere in the mid table of the Portuguese top flight."
The coach went on to say that his team will continue to grow and that he has not had a lot of time as the head coach of Sporting.
"It is normal at this stage in the season, during pre-season to be tested in these games. This game was a good challenge for us and I believe we are on track with our plans to get stronger and stronger," the coach said.
