Sporting Clube de Portugal captain Adrien Silva revealed that winning the Cape Town Cup serves as a valuable morale boost for the Portuguese outfit ahead of the upcoming season.

Sporting emerged victorious in the inaugural pre-season tourney with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the final on Sunday thanks to a second-half brace from Colombian striker Fredy Montero.

"It is always important to win before the start of the season, but it's not the most important thing, its also about the mindset, [the win] also puts us in a good mindset for the work to come," said Silva via an interpreter in the aftermath.

Sporting kick-off their season against rivals Benfica in the Portuguese Super Cup in two weeks time, something Silva is already looking forward to.

"All the victories are important, but this is especially important for us and [victory in the Super Cup] will be a step in the right direction."
