Following their 2-0 win over English Premier League giants Crystal Palace to claim the inaugural Cape Town Cup, Sporting Club de Portugal’s skipper Adrien Silva says it’s important to start their season with some silverware.
A second-half brace by substitute Fredy Montero was enough to hand the Portuguese side the cup as they were crowned the first winners on Sunday afternoon at Cape Town Stadium.
Silva said after the match that the win inspires confidence in Jorge Jesus team as they prepare for the new 2015/16 season.
“It is always important to start a season with some wins, although what matters most right now is getting into to shape and taking on board the coach’s ideas,” said Silva.
“Wins bring confidence and today we took an important step ahead of the Supercup, which is the first official competition that we want to win this season.”
In the other match before the final, hosts Ajax Cape Town played to a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United as they fought for the 3rd place play-off sharing the bronze.
